Cabooses are something that we all have grown accustom to seeing on trains throughout the years. There are different types of cabooses and they all serve different purposes. However, the original function of the caboose was to insure that the crew had a fairly comfortable way to be aboard the train in the event that a problem should occur. Some of the different types of cabooses are listed below:
- Standard Caboose: This type of caboose is also often referred to as “Cupola”. In the inside you will notice that the seats are elevated so the train crews are able to inspect the train from their seats.
- Bay Window Caboose: This type of caboose obtained its name because of the shape of its windows. In this type of caboose the crew members are seated in the middle and the wall projects the train for easier inspection.
- Extended Vision Caboose: This type of caboose allows the crew to see over the tops of the other train cars and also is more spacious than the prior types mentioned.
There are other types of cabooses available yet they all serve the same purpose. This brief excerpt just gives you an idea of their different designs.
